Dental Bridges in Mississauga, ON
Replace missing teeth with a fixed,natural-looking solution
At Heritage House Dental, we provide dental bridges in Mississauga to help restore your bite, make chewing easier, and complete your smile.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration used to fill the space left by one or more missing teeth.
Unlike a removable denture, a bridge stays in your mouth. Depending on the type of bridge, the replacement tooth may be supported by crowns placed over neighboring teeth or by dental implants.
A dental bridge can help:
- ZRestore your ability to bite and chew
- ZFill a visible gap in your smile
- ZSupport clearer speech when missing teeth affect pronunciation
- ZHelp keep nearby teeth from shifting into the open space
- ZRestore a more balanced bite
If you are unsure whether you need a bridge, implant, or another solution, we can compare your options before you commit to treatment.
Types of dental bridges available in Mississauga
Traditional dental bridge
A traditional bridge uses crowns on the natural teeth on both sides of the gap to support the replacement tooth between them. This option may work well when you have healthy teeth on each side of the missing tooth that can support crowns.
Cantilever dental bridge
A cantilever bridge is supported by a natural tooth on only one side of the gap. Because this design places more pressure on a single supporting tooth, Dr. Lamba will determine whether it is appropriate based on the location of the missing tooth and your bite.
Implant-supported dental bridge
An implant-supported bridge attaches to dental implants rather than relying entirely on neighboring natural teeth. It may be considered when several teeth in a row are missing or when preserving adjacent healthy teeth is an important part of your treatment plan.
What to expect when getting a dental bridge
Most traditional dental bridges require two main appointments, with a temporary restoration worn while your permanent bridge is being made.
1. Consultation and digital imaging
We examine the missing-tooth area, your gums, your bite, and the teeth surrounding the gap.
Digital x-rays and an iTero 3D scan may be used to help Dr. Lamba plan your restoration and evaluate how it should fit into your bite.
2. Preparing the supporting teeth
For a traditional bridge, the teeth beside the gap are reshaped so crowns can fit securely over them. If an implant-supported bridge is recommended, the process is different and includes dental implant placement before the final bridge is attached.
3. Wearing a temporary bridge
A temporary bridge can protect the prepared teeth while your permanent restoration is being made.
4. Placing your permanent bridge
Once your bridge is ready, we check its fit, appearance, and bite before securing it in place. We’ll also show you how to clean around and underneath your new bridge at home.
How long does a dental bridge last?
To protect your bridge:
- ZBrush twice a day
- ZClean underneath the bridge every day
- ZUse a floss threader, interdental cleaner, or water flosser if recommended
- ZKeep up with regular dental exams and cleanings
- ZAvoid chewing ice and other very hard objects
Dental bridge vs. dental implant
A dental bridge may be worth considering if:
- ZYou want a fixed tooth replacement
- ZHealthy teeth beside the gap can support the restoration
- ZYou prefer a treatment that may be completed sooner than an implant
- ZThe neighboring teeth already need crowns
A dental implant may be worth considering if:
- ZYou want to replace the missing tooth root as well as the visible tooth
- ZYou want to avoid preparing healthy neighboring teeth
- ZYour jawbone can support an implant
- ZYou are comfortable with a longer treatment and healing timeline
There is no single option that is best for every patient.
Dr. Lamba will look at your remaining teeth, gums, jawbone, bite, number of missing teeth, and treatment goals before recommending a bridge, implant, or another tooth replacement option.
Why replace a missing tooth?
A missing tooth can affect more than the appearance of your smile. Over time, nearby teeth may begin moving toward the open space, which can change the way your teeth fit together.
Depending on the location of the missing tooth, you may also notice changes in chewing or speaking. Replacing the tooth can help restore function and reduce unwanted movement of the surrounding teeth.
Not sure whether the tooth needs to be replaced right away? We can evaluate the area and explain your options without pressuring you into treatment.
